Key Stage 1 Curriculum Overview 

In this stage, we deal with students aged 5-7 where we provide a broad and balanced foundation for learning, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Our curriculum focuses on developing core skills in literacy, numeracy, and scientific exploration, while also nurturing personal, social, and emotional growth.

Maputo International School, founded in 1976, caters for the Students of both Mozambican and expatriate families. It has the staff and facilities to offer a first-class education from Preschool to A Level. MIS is a registered Cambridge Secondary and Secondary School and an accredited Cambridge Examination Centre.

The school caters mainly for diplomats, staff of foreign organisations and companies with Students living in Maputo, and a growing number of Mozambicans and others. The school is comprised of more than 40 nationalities. The students range in age from 3 – 18 years, from preschool to year 13. Prior to year 8, when students need to be ready for study and exams in the medium of English, proficiency in English is not an essential requirement because the school offers intensive English for those students who have no knowledge of the language. Special English support is also available to enable students to improve their English and to help them engage with the wider curriculum.

MIS is a very diverse community: the staff and students come from many parts of the world. Learning to live with each other’s differences and respecting everyone regardless of their race, religion, culture and personal traits is an achieved goal at MIS.   

Message from the Director

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Maputo International School (MIS), home to over 700 students representing more than 18 countries. MIS provides an exceptional environment in which to cultivate an understanding of multicultural and multiracial diversity. Our institution inspires, challenges, and empowers young minds to become global citizens of the 21st century. We are committed to fostering values that equip learners to be collaborative, creative, confident, curious, empathetic, focused, resilient, and self-assured.  To support these aspirations, MIS employs over 60 highly qualified and experienced educators from diverse nationalities. Our teaching staff not only deliver rigorous academic programs but also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities designed to nurture students' athletic and artistic talents.
